Coaching Announcement for the 2018-2019 Season (updated)
The Surrey Falcons are pleased to announce the following coach appointments for the 2018-19 season.
Juvenile – Celina Abad
Midget A – Riley Hanberg
Riley grew up playing AAA hockey with South Delta Minor Hockey association. During this time he was an instructor at the South Delta Hockey school, was selected to the Canada Dry Midget “A” All-star tournament and was awarded the graduating scholarship by the South Delta Hockey Association.
After an eight year break to complete his Doctorate of Optometry he returned to the lower mainland and began coaching in minor soccer, baseball, softball and hockey. His passion for hockey and developing young athletes has allowed him to coach 15 different hockey teams over the last seven years ranging in age from Initiation to Bantam in the Cloverdale, Surrey Falcons and Vancouver Selects associations.
He is known for his dedication to the players on his teams. He believes minor sports are a microcosm in which our youth can develop and find purpose through team and individual goal setting and the passion and hard work required to achieve these goals. He is excited to start the new season as the Surrey Falcons look to build a strong presence in the Midget A division.
Bantam A – Tony Lindsay
Tony Lindsay will lead our Bantam A Program. He has almost 30 years of Elite level coaching experience in female and male programs. Coach Tony is a three-time head coach of the Lower Mainland U-17 Male team in Hockey Canada’s Best Ever Program and a three-time member of the BC Provincial U-17 Male team provincial camp coaching staff. He has most recently been a lead instructor in the BC Hockey Female U-14 High Performance Program and a head coach in the U-16 program. In 2014, Coach Tony led the Richmond/Burnaby/Delta zone to a silver medal at the BC Winter Games in Mission.
Coach Tony was awarded the Pacific Coast Amateur Hockey Association Coach of the Year award in 2013-14 and in 2014 was selected as the Richmond Amateur Sports Coach of the Year. He is also a two-time recipient of Richmond Minor Hockey Association’s Coach of the Year Award and a two-time recipient of Coaching Excellence Awards.
For the past ten seasons, Coach Tony has been coaching exclusively in the female game and the last four teams he coached for the Richmond Ravens each reached the Provincial Championship game, including winning a Pee Wee A Provincial Championship and a Bantam A Provincial Championship.
Coach Tony is a fully certified NCCP Advanced 1 and Level 3 coach and has extensive experience as a NCCP course conductor and coaching mentor.
After taking a year off from coaching a rep program to spend time with his graduating daughters’ Midget C1 team, Coach Tony is very excited to once again be the head coach of a Bantam A team and is proud to be part of the Falcons program.
